Pritam Chakraborty: The Trendy Music Director

pritam_chakraborty_400189656713253_1.jpg Pritam Chakraborty, better known as Pritam is one of the most successful music directors in Bollywood these days. Born in Kolkata, Pritam is the son of Prabodh Chakraborty, who runs a music school for children. Pritam gained his early training in music from his father and learned to play the guitar while still in school.

Pritam completed his studies from St. James School and residency college respectively and later joined the famous Bangla Band 'Chandrabindoo'. He joined the 'Film and Television Institute' in Pune to undertake a course in sound recording and sound engineering in 1993.

Having completed his education, Pritam moved to Mumbai to pursue a career in Bollywood. He started composind ad jingles and befriended some other struggling young artists like Shantanu Moitra, Rajkumar Hirani, Sanjay Gadhvi and Chandrajeet Ganguly, also known as Jeet. Pritam got his first break in the movie 'Tere Liye'. Though the music was well received, the film sank at the box office. However, in 2002, Pritam got the chance to compose the music for Yashraj Films' 'Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai'. All the songs from that movie were chartbusters and that was Pritam's first hard step in Bollywood Music.

Pritam successfully composes music for at least 10 films per year now and the popularity for some of them have been quite huge. Dhoom, Dhoom 2, Gangster, Jab We Met, Life in a Metro, Bhool Bhulaiya, Race and Billu are some of these blockbusters.

Pritam has been accused of plagiarism on several occasions, wherein he has copied the music for a number of his most popular Hindi film songs from various artists from around the world (especially Asia), without giving credit to the original artists themselves. In some cases he has bought the copyright and given due credit too.
